He addresses Police Commemoration Day parade Ensure sense of safety among people, he tells personnel Kakinada: Naxalism is on the wane owing to the untiring efforts of the police but there is no room for complacency as they may strike again at an opportune movement, cautioned East Godavari SP Battini Srinivasulu. Addressing the police personnel at the Police Commemoration Day parade at the district police office grounds here on Sunday, he said, as many as 718 police and paramilitary forces personnel, nine alone in Andhra Pradesh, were killed in combating the menace of extremism all over the country last year and their supreme sacrifices should not go waste. `East Godavari being forming part of the Maoists AOB area, every effort is being made to contain their activity. At present it looks their strength dwindled. It may be part of their tactics. Hence the police should be always on an alert to face the challenge from them effectively.’ he warned. The SP wanted the police personnel to be better equipped to face the challenge including upgrading their technical skills. Recalling that the recent blasts in Hyderabad alone had taken huge toll, Mr. Srinivasulu termed it a heinous act on the part of terrorists. He advised the police personnel to keep abreast of things and change their attitude for establishing peace ensuring a sense of security and safety among people. Additional SP A V Ranga Nath read out the list of 718 police personnel that laid down their lives in combating extremism in the country last year. The SP, the Additional SP along with OSD V Satyanarayana and other officials offered floral tributes to the martyrs at the martyrs’ memorial on the occasion. Contingents of district-armed police during the parade paid their homage to the martyrs with reverse arms. The SP distributed house site pattas to family members of four police personnel who were killed in combating the extremists. Sarees were also distributed to family members of the martyrs. Later the SP flagged off the police commemoration day rally at the police lines.
