After a long suspense, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Sonia Gandhi, Chairperson of the UPA, stepped down from their stand on Indo -US Nuclear deal and made up their mind that no deal was above the government. It clearly shows their attitude towards the national interests. During the previous months the Prime Minister was firm on the deal whereas now expressing his unwillingness to go further with the deal at least for the moment, the sudden change of their stand on the deal is better known to them only. In the meantime every party started preparations and make up their mind to face elections offing at any time, in the event of Left parties withdraw support to the Union Government. Different State Governments either announced or launched different schemes to woo the voters. If the deal is really important and necessary for the interest of the nation why the government was now putting it in cold storage. It means that the personal and party’s interests are above than the national interest. The Union Government must be strong to handle all the important situations and the leader of the nation should be firm with the commitments made to the people of the country. If the deal is in the interest of the people of the country then they should go ahead. S.R. Krishna Berhampur Bad roadsRainy season is over. The potholes, which were filled with rain water, also got dried up. Now Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation will go smooth as usual. The Government agencies have become so used to the public outcries over the bad condition of roads that they take serious issues lightly every time. Can there be accountability over functioning of officials? BMC had brought out a citizen charter book where numbers of several officials were mentioned. But now, one will find telephone numbers are either invalid or officers in-charge of specific charge have been transferred. Why should a citizen go on paying holding taxes if he would not get basic services. Most of the newspapers have highlighted reforms in administration of BMC, but the reforms have not percolated down to benefit common people. What I would like to suggest is that the civic body should collect taxes from the locality where its services were found to be satisfactory. Niranjan Panda Bhubaneswar Unnecessary euphoria over T20 victoryDhoni’s boys have again defeated the Australia in T20 game. But the way media especially electronic media highlighted the victory gives an impression that the country is starved of victory. There is a need of maturity in celebration. The so-called specialists who most of the time air their views inconsistently join the excitement praising a player and the next day, throwing him to obscurity. Due to the amateur celebrations, Srisanth has become indiscipline. Robin Utthappa has started swaggering more than the Tendulkar in his 18 years of career. Dhoni, who was dubbed to have possessed charismatic leadership, has become a mortal. Our cricketers should not forget their limitations and prowess of Australian team. If they do not make amendment to their mistakes and behaviour, they are likely to become cricket team like Kenya and Zimbabwe. Sasank Samal Cuttack
