The accused were caught after a hot chase HAVERI: The Haveri district police have busted a racket in fake currency notes and arrested five persons in this connection. Superintendent of Police Ramesh told presspersons here on Sunday that the accused were arrested on Saturday. On a tip off, Halageri (Ranebennur taluk) police sub-inspector Ramesh Kambale and his staff seized a van proceeding from Harihar towards Hirekerur on Itagi Road and arrested the accused. Though the accused made attempts to escape from the spot, policemen arrested them after a hot chase. Mr. Ramesh said that the accused were transporting equipment and raw material, including a colour scanner and a printer, to Kunchur in Hirekerur taluk. During the raid, fake currency notes of Rs. 9,700 in the denomination of Rs. 500 and Rs. 100 and paper valued at Rs. 10,000 were seized. He gave the names of the arrested as Mohan of Sitarampur in Bhadravati taluk, Anwarsab A. Killedar of Gajendragad, Karabasappa Pujar and Parameshappa Mattimani of Kunchur village and van driver Babu Holeyammanavar of Ranebennur. Halager Inspector T.V. Suresh will investigate the case further, Mr. Ramesh said.
