All houses to get power by 2012, says A.K. Balan

Kozhikode and Malappuram districts to benefit

More emphasis on non-conventional energy resources


NILAMBUR: All houses in the State will get electricity connections in five years, Power Minister A.K. Balan has said. Inaugurating the work on the Adyanpara hydel-power project, which will benefit Kozhikode and Malappuram districts, the Minister said by 2012 there would be no houses without power connection in the State.

He said the government was laying emphasis on projects based on non-conventional energy resources, and it would encourage development of such projects. He said the Government was trying to popularise the Attappadi-model

project, which had proved to be a viable option for the State.

Mr. Balan said the Adyanpara project would be completed in two years. The Minister admitted that the State had failed to completely utilise its water resources. Aryadan Mohammed, MLA, presided over the function. T.K. Hamza, MP; P.V. Abdul Wahab, MP; Nilambur Block Panchayat president M.A. Razak and Chaliyar panchayat president Paul Inchanal addressed the function.

Electrification project

Staff reporter adds from Kozhikode: The Kakkadampoyil-Peedikappara-Valanthode-Thottappally electrification project, completed at a cost of Rs.1.38 crore, has been attached to twenty 25kVI transformers at Thiruvambadi electricity section in Kozhikode district.

A 11kV line has been laid for 11 km, three-phase lines for four km and single-phase lines for 16 km in this section, Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) officials said. Ten 25kVI transformers have been installed in the Nilambur section in Malappuram district of the electrification project. It also has 11kV line in seven km; three-phase lines in 2 km and a single-phase line in 12 km. As many as 700 households in Thiruvambadi and Nilambur regions would get electricity connections with the inauguration of the new project.
