PATHANAMTHITTA: The third Ashtanga Hrudaya Sathram, a biannual workshop on Ayurveda organised by the Swadeshi Science Movement, began at Santhinilayam in Thiruvalla on Sunday. Delivering the benedictory speech, Akkeeramon Kalidasa Bhattathiri, Tantri at Sree Vallabha Temple, Thiruvalla, stressed the need for promoting age-old native systems of medicine, such as Ayurveda. Ayurveda, he said, can do a great deal in effectively combating many epidemics in the modern world. Municipal chairman R. Jayakumar inaugurated the workshop. Narendra Sarma, organising secretary, Swadeshi Science Movement, South India, delivered the keynote address. N.K. Mahadevan, chairman of Vagbhata Sarani, welcomed the gathering. G.G. Gangadharan, chairman of the sathram, presided. A.C. Rajeevkumar, co-host of the sathram, and B.G. Gokulan, general convenor, spoke. M.R. Vasudevan Namboodiri, Principal, Government Ayurveda College, Thiruvananthapuram, delivered a lecture at a technical session. A.M.G. Namboodiri; K.P. Muraleedharan, former Principal of Ayurveda college, Coimbatore; K.V. Dileepkumar of Kottackal Ayurveda college; and V. Velayudhan Nair of Pankaja Kasturi Ayurveda Colege, Thiruvananthapuram, will deliver lectures on Monday. Tuesday’s technical sessions will be led by Savithri, Sambamurthi, P.M. Warrier, P.M. Warier, K.P. Kirathamurthi and Alathiyoor Narayanan Nampi. Karinkunnam Ramachandran Nair, vice-president of the Swadeshi Science Movement State unit, will deliver a lecture on “Nadeevandanam” on Wednesday. A special talk by C. Anaghan Kalady, Ayurveda Jyothisha, will be held on Thursday. G. Sreedhara Kurup of CVN Kalari Sanghom will deliver a lecture on “Kalarimarma Chikilsa” on Friday. S. Gopakumar of Government Ayurveda College, Kannur, will lead a debate on Saturday. N. Gopalakishnan, Director of Indian Institute of Scientific Heritage, Thiruvananthapuram, will deliver the keynote address at the valedictory meeting on October 28.
