THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The State committee of the DYFI has decided to hold a public rally at Thiruvambady on Tuesday to ‘expose’ the untruth of Thamarassery Bishop Paul Chittilappilly regarding the last rites of the late MLA Mathai Chacko. The rally would see the ‘holy lie’ being put on trial by DYFI activists in the presence of scholars in Christian religion, including clergy, a DYFI release said here on Sunday. Similar programmes would be held at all block centres at the same time. The DYFI committee felt that the Bishop’s statement that the late CPI(M) legislator had received the sacrament of the anointing of the sick just before his death was part of a conspiracy involving the UDF leadership. The support that the Thamarassery Bishop received from UDF leaders Oommen Chandy, Ramesh Chennithala, K.M. Mani and P.K. Kunhalikutty, who had come out against CPI(M) State secretary Pinarayi Vijayan over the issue, was proof for this, it said. The DYFI was certain that the attempts of the Church leadership to drive a wedge between the progressive movement and the faithful would not work and pointed out that the progressive movements in Kerala were in the forefront of the fight against fascist forces that had tried to attack minorities, including Christians.
