KOCHI: Criminal elements have wrested the control of the Bharatiya Janata Party, alleged K. Raman Pillai, president of the Kerala Janapaksham. Inaugurating the first State convention of the party here on Sunday, Mr. Pillai said that the new party would treat the calls for bandhs and hartals as human rights violations. “The party will put forward comprehensive plans for the progress of various sections of society. Schemes for protecting farmers from suicides will be formulated,” he said. The convention elected Mr. Pillai as the president of the organisation. Party leaders M.D. Jose, A.M. Varghese, Najma Asharaf, P.D. Purushothaman, Manchery Narayanan and P.B. Satyan were among those who spoke.
