Lightning kills two women

VILLUPURAM: Two women were struck dead by lightning at Eerudaiyampattu in Sankarapuram block on Friday.

M. Vasantha and G. Chellammal were clearing the silt in the Sitheri under the National Rural Employment Guarantee scheme when there was a sudden downpour. When they were taking shelter under a tree, lightning struck them. Six others who sustained injuries were treated at the Sankarapuram government hospital. — Special Correspondent
