THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Work is apace on the ‘One Rank One Pension’ scheme, a release from the Accountant General (A and E), Kerala, said here on Sunday. The AG termed incorrect reports that the scheme was at a standstill and said the work of revision of pension under the scheme was progressing well. About 500 to 600 cases are being authorised every day and thousands of pensioners who have already received the authorisation letters bear ample testimony to this, the release said. The AG felt the pace of authorisation would have been much higher had the staff who had earlier volunteered to do the job after office hours and on holidays, been able to do this work. This has been hindered by the ‘ill-conceived agitation’ by a section of the employees. Orders had been issued long ago to the treasuries to revise the pension provisionally under the scheme with a minimum benefit of Rs. 200 a month pending final authorisation by the AG’s office. This had been done in respect of all pensioners who had applied and, therefore, any slight delay in authorisation would not affect the pensioners adversely, it added. The AG’s office is committed to complete the work as quickly as possible and every effort is being taken in this direction, the release said. However, the Kerala Service Pensioners and Retired Teachers Aikyavedi has said that the Government and the AG (A and E) have done ‘grave injustice’ to the pensioners by ‘deliberately’ delaying implementing the ‘One Rank One Pension’ scheme applicable to those who had retired from service prior to April 1, 2004.
