Young Scientist Awards announced

DEHRA DUN: The Uttarakhand State Council for Science and Technology has announced Young Scientist Awards in 12 disciplines and an Innovator of the Year Award to be given at the Second Uttarakhand State Science Congress to be held in Naini Tal from November 15 to 17. About 350 papers are likely to be presented at the Congress, the Council director, Rajendra Dobhal said.

Other events planned in the near future include the Children Science Congress to be held in Hardwar from December two, science popularisation activities through the Vigyan Prasar Kendras under the Planet Earth programme of the UNO and the Environment Congress to be organised with the help of noted environmentalist, Chandi Prasad Bhatt.

The Council will soon call for published articles or electronic media clippings for the State Science Journalism Awards to be given to three male and an equal number of female scribes as announced by the then Chief Minister, Narayan Dutt Tiwari during the workshop on Enhancement of Science Coverage in Media organised by the Lokhit Foundation in December, 2006.

These awards aim at promoting scientific temper amongst the masses through easy to understand stories, Dr Dobhal said.

The National Teachers Science Congress organised by PEHAL recently had also gone a long way in promoting scientific temper amongst the teachers and the Council will soon be promoting a number activities aimed at developing a scientific temper amongst women, students and farmers, Dr Dobhal added.
