HASSAN: At the recent surveillance meeting held at the Deputy Commissioner office, district surveillance officer Rajagopal expressed concern over the increased incidence of dog bites in the district. From January, 2007 to October 10, 2007, 5,172 cases of dog bite had been reported in the district. B.S. During this period, 416 probable cases of chikungunya and dengue had been reported from 34 villages in the district. Of 126 blood samples sent to the National Institute of Virology, Bangalore, 14 tested positive for chikungunya, and four for dengue.
