S. Railway enters final

MUMBAI: Geethu Anna Jose, uneasy due to a bout of cold and missing easy lay-ups early on, came back strongly to top-score with 21 points as defending champion Southern Railway (Chennai) wore down a fighting South Central Railway (Secunderabad) 72-53 in the semifinals of the 24th United Phosphorous-all-India Ramu Memorial basketball tournament here.

In the other semifinal, South East Central Railway (Bilaspur) crushed Central Railway 107-50 with Anju Lakra (36) on the mark.

Men: League: Group ‘A’: Indian Army 80 (Dalip Kumar 17, Sweeto Francis 17, Jairam Jat 13) bt Vijaya Bank 57 (Murali Mohan 15, Austin 11, Srinivas Gowda 10).

Indian Army 80 (Dalip Kumar 22, Kapil Poonia 10, Navneet Singh 10) bt SCR 43 (Liju Abraham 13).

Group ‘B’: Indian Navy 77 (K. Vipin 29, A.A. Mashi 17, S. Cherian 13) bt Central Excise & Customs (Kochi) 70 (Subhash Shenoy 25, Sunny Thomas 19, S. Deepan 11); Indian Navy 98 (K. Vipin 28, S.M. Settu 23, A.A. Mashi 19) bt WR 83 (Jasjot Singh 24, Prakash Mishra 12, Yadwinder Singh 10).

Women: Semifinals: SR (Chennai) 72 (Geethu Anna Jose 21, P. Anitha 16, N. Shyamala 12) bt SCR (Secunderabad) 53 (Sofi Sam 25, Kavaljeet Kaur 11); SECR (Bilaspur) 107 (Anju Lakra 36, M. Pushpa 23, Seema Singh 18) bt CR 50.
