NEW DELHI: After months of delaying, the groundwork on the 2010 Commonwealth Games village finally began at the site in Yamuna riverbed.
The Chairman of the Co-ordination Committee for the 2010 Commonwealth Games, Austin Sealy, heaved a sigh of relief and hoped that the village would turn out to be a World-class athletes’ village.
“I am glad to see that work has begun,” was Sealy’s observation after he visited the site. The construction of village is being done by Dubai-based firm, Emmar-MGF.
The village is expected to house 8,000 athletes and officials during the Commonwealth Games in October 2010. — Principal Correspondent
