Chitradurga: On the fourth day of the Sharana Samskriti Utsava,a large number of people participated in the procession organised by the Murugharajendra Math here on Sunday. The procession, which began at 11 a.m. from the math, took over five hours to cover a distance of two kilometres, before reaching the old Murugha Math located in the Chitradurga Fort. After reaching the old Math, Shivamurthy Murugha Swami of the Math performed a special pooja. More than 125 folk groups of the district had converged to celebrate the occasion, and presented various dance performances. They passed through the streets of the city to reach the fort. Special tableaux were prepared depicting the philosophy of Basaveshwara. A specially decorated chariot was also made in which Murugha Swami was seated during the procession. The math has been holding the Sharana Samskriti Utsava for the past two decades. Lectures by experts were also organised on various social issues.
