Sir, — People who come for an early morning walk along with their pet dogs do not follow safety measures by chaining them. This creates problems to other passers by. Some of them get apprehensive about the danger from unchained dogs. Dog owners have got every right to bring their pets along with them. But they should ensure safety of other users of road. The dog owners may claim that their pets would not harm others. They should follow the minimum safety measures by chaining their pets instead of treating them specially and letting them free on public roads. V.S. Ganeshan Bangalore Devanahally International AirportSir, — The international airport at Devanahalli is due to be operational in March 2008. The ancestors of Kempegowda were from Avati village near Devanahalli. Kempe Gowda of the “Yelahanka Nadaprabhus,” the founder of Bangalore, was a great visionary. It was he who delineated the four cardinal points for expansion of Bangalore and erected the watch towers to define the limits of the city. At present, Bangalore has expanded way beyond his vision. The international airport at Devanahalli should be named after Kempe Gowda as a fitting tribute to this great visionary and the towers he erected could be the mascots of the international airport. It was his foresight which has made Bangalore an International brand name. H.N. Ramakrishna Bangalore Chaotic trafficSir, — Vehicular traffic on 23rd Main Road in Marenahalli, J.P. Nagar, has become extremely chaotic owing to its narrow width. Two-wheelers are parked haphazardly, making movement of vehicles difficult. Growing commercial activity in the area has added to the disquiet. Better infrastructure should be provided. N. Raju Bangalore Storm water drainsSir, — Much money is being invested in removing the silt from and reconstructing of the storm water drains in the city. This has become an annual ritual as these drains get blocked owing to silt and rubbish deposits. There has to be a regular clearing system and those who cause blockage by dumping rubbish should be hauled up. A task force should be created by the BBMP to check and clean these storm water drains on a routine basis. Otherwise, this annual exercise would be an exercise in futility with the money spent going down the drain. D.B.N. Murthy Bangalore Readers can also email letters to letters.mysore@ thehindu.co.in
