Bid to promote solar water heaters

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: With an aim to encourage the use of energy saving systems, the Delhi Government has introduced a scheme for providing incentives and rebates on installation of solar water heaters for domestic purposes.

The Government’s Power Department, which has received more than 50 applications for availing of this scheme, has already installed solar water heaters with a capacity of 25,000 litres per day in three hospitals-- Moolchand, ENT Hospital and Sanjivini Hospital.

At three hospitals

“A solar water heater system of 50,000 litres per day is being installed at Batra Hospital and negotiations are on for installing a 4000 lpd system at Apollo Hospital, 10,000 lpd at Jaipur Golden and Max Hospital, Saket, 5,000 lpd at Max Hospital in Pitampura and 10,000 lpd at Guru Tegh Bahadur Hospital,” said a Power Department official.

While the commercial sector is entitled to a benefit of 80 per cent depreciation and soft loans, the Power Department is also exploring the possibility of leasing and inviting institutions to help non-commercial institutions install solar water heaters on build-operate-transfer basis.
