A ‘green’ wedding

Staff Reporter

Bangalore: It was indeed a wedding with a difference. Sujay and Vidya, both Information Technology professionals, planted a sapling in a pot after tying the knot in Malleswaram here on Sunday.

“I came to know about the concept of “spoorthivana” from my friend Viji, who is a volunteer in this tree plantation programme. And also about the “Sasyanjali” project which encourages people to plant saplings on all important occasions including weddings and birthdays. It would be symbolic and also in a small way create awareness about the need to preserve the environment,” said Vidya, the bride.

The bride and the groom later handed over the sapling to the former Additional Chief Secretary Vijay Gore, who is actively involved in this programme.

‘Spoorthivana’

The sapling will be planted at “Spoorthivana,” a 400-acre land in Tippagondanahalli, near the confluence of the Arkavathy and the Kumudavathi.
