Still from ‘Raadha-Madhu’ serial on Maa TV Few good concepts and a couple of good scheduling moves seem to have helped Maa TV in its claim of having scaled to second position in terms of popularity. Citing recent reports of Television Audience Measure (TAM), the channel claims to be nudging its way past the other channels in Telugu. On the serial front, the channel has ‘Radha-Madhu’ going strong and ‘Ammamma.com’ creating enough ripples to catch the attention of the viewers. The Nagarjuna starrer movie ‘Sriramadasu’ which was put on the small screen by the channel as part of Maha Movie screening, apparently did wonders ending up with credit of being the highest watched programme among the women audience. And what next? Maa is clearly looking forward to some of its new programming and ‘Rela Re Rela’, the folk music talent hunt. The crew has traversed the State to capture some really captivating material for the show and role of Sai Prasad is being acknowledged in the way the endeavour has shaped. Some other interesting projects include Star Hunt and Hemachandra Show. “A few interactives and mythologies are also in pipeline,” says the channel spokesperson. Content dished out on channels and its impact on children has remain a topic of animated debates for different platforms. But for a very few initiatives, channels however appear to be dismissive of the children’s exclusive needs though they form considerable chunk. A couple of imported animation material dubbed into Telugu is what the channel bosses apparently feel will keep the boys and girls happy. Isn’t time, some channel comes out with a proper slot and enough content generated locally and with right nativity for this section? T. LALITH SINGH
