Fun and frolic: Children had a jolly time during the Dasara festivities held at the Bal Bhavan in Bangalore on Sunday.

BANGALORE: Children took out a colourful procession at Cubbon Park here on Sunday, around the same time as a procession was winding through the thoroughfares of Mysore city to mark the culmination of Navratri festivities.

Caparisoned camels and horses were part of the procession that was restricted to the park premises.

The children were attired in regal robes, carrying the royal insignia and swords.

A few of them dressed as foot soldiers accompanied three child prodigies who were brought to the Bal Bhavan in a carriage drawn by a horse. They were the three young achievers — film director Kishan, magician Karan Krishna and Shriya G. Dinakar, believed to be the youngest pilot — were the cynosure of all eyes. Many children gathered around them to pose for photographs.

Those dressed up as cartoon characters enthralled the week-end crowd at the park.

Kishan, who spoke to the gathering, recalled his association with the Bal Bhavan. He said he had participated in many of its activities and competitions. “The quality of competitions at the Bal Bhavan is quite high,” he said.

Shriya, who is also a member of the Bal Bhavan, said that her confidence levels had gone up ever since she started participating in its activities. Karan displayed his magic skills in a brief show. Cultural programmes including dandiya and folk dance were part of the festivities. An effigy, symbolising evils such as child marriage and dowry harassment, was burnt.

Bal Bhavan Secretary Ahmed Hasan told The Hindu that the programme had been organised to inculcate the spirit of Dasara festivities among children who were participating in the Dasara vacation camp at the bhavan.
