Andhra Pradesh
The decision of the Andhra Pradesh Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) to increase bus fares is an unfair step. The RTC buses are used mostly by the middle and the lower sections of society who are already overburdened on the economic front due to the constantly rising price index. Prices of vegetables, cooking gas and other essential commodities are touching the sky subjecting the common man to untold miseries. Since the salaries are not in proportionate to the rising prices, the Government should desist from any such price hikes, which is bound to be backbreaking for the public. M. Manikyala Rao Benz Circle Cause for concernThe mushrooming food vendors at street corners and almost every vantage point in the city are a cause for serious concern. Even while local municipal authorities harp on the string of measures being implemented to ensure hygienic surroundings, precious little is being done to rid the city of these pushcart vendors selling junk food that plays havoc with our health. The carts begin to pop up as the evening approaches, for people who carry home while returning from office a hot packet of mirchi bajji, punugu or pakodi. Though good to eat when hot, such food can cause serious health problems. The authorities concerned should take note of it and do the needful. N. Sambasiva Rao Suryaraopet Give wide publicityThe Department of Posts treats any postcard with letters typed with the help of a conventional typewriter as a ‘printed matter’ and the addressee is penalised accordingly. But not many people are aware of this norm and, therefore, most addressees are taken aback when they are asked to pay penalty for such post cards received by them. This rule, however, does not exist outside Andhra Pradesh. If the department wants to deviate from the regular norm followed across the board, it should also handle the responsibility of giving it wide publicity for public knowledge. Lalitha Ranee Behind SAS College, Vijayawada Rule violationThere is no denying the fact that ATM centres are the best things to have happened, both for bankers as well as bank customers. But there are a few basic things, if followed in totality, can make use of these centres an even better experience. Despite clear instructions that only one person should use the inside space at a time to withdraw money, the rule is violated indiscriminately by many. People go inside in groups, encroaching upon the privacy of the person using the machine. H. Kalyan Rao Guntur
