KANCHEEPURAM: The stage has been set to promote rural tourism in Tamil Nadu with the State government and the Tamil Nadu Tourism Development Corporation (TTDC) identifying two hamlets in Kancheepuram district for a new tourism concept. Encouraged by the good start registered by medical tourism and successful launching of eco-tourism mission, the TTDC, with support from Tourism and Culture Department, has embarked on an ambitious tourism promotional project called ‘rural tourism,’ said the Tourism Director and TTDC Managing Director, M. Rajaram. Talking to reporters at Mamallapuram, he said the State, which had a combination of natural wonder and man-made structures, had captivated foreign touristsSo it had decided to locate hamlets, where the Tamil culture and customs were still preserved, and make them a platform for the tourists to get the taste of Tamil culture, Mr. Rajaram said. Kadamabadi and Punjarasanthangal in Kancheepuram district have been selected and a meeting with district-level officials and elected representatives was conducted at Mamallapuarm to give a final shape to the new concept. As regards financial commitment, Collector Pradeep Yadav said the district administration has taken up certain infrastructure development works at the two villages identified for the project.
