Vilamoura (Portugal): The Indian duo of Jeev Milkha Singh and Shiv Kapur turned in identical cards of two-under 70 to slip down the ladder and join a pack of eight at the 30th place after the penultimate round of the Portugal Masters golf here on Saturday.
Jeev began well, spreading three birdies over four holes — from two to five — before dropping his first shot on the sixth. On his way back, Jeev dropped two more shots but birdied the 11th and 15th to atone for the setbacks and settle for a round of 70 to total nine-under 207. Kapur looked sedate and embraced caution. He picked up a shot each on the third and seventh holes before completing his bogey-free front nine. On his back nine, the Delhi golfer stumbled to his lone bogey of the day on the par-four 14th, but followed it with a birdie and then parred the next three holes to round off the day. Atop the leader-board, Daniel Vancsik held on to his lead, which was whittled down to a mere one stroke after the Argentine carded 68 for a three-day total of 18-under 198. At Chattanooga (USA), Arjun Atwal’s hopes of securing his PGA Tour card lay in tatters after he found himself on the wrong side of the cut line to crash out of the Chattanooga Classic on the Nationwide Tour here. Atwal’s slump in form got prolonged again and after his opening round of two-under 70, the Orlando-based Indian carded 71 in his second round for a two-day total of 141 that saw him miss the cut by one shot. — PTI
