Child welfare council to adopt harassment victim

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Kerala State Council for Child Welfare has decided to adopt Aromal, the three- year-old child who was the victim of harassment at the hands of his parents at Mavadi near Nedunkandam.

General secretary of the council A. Krishnan said here on Sunday that the Idukki District Collector had been requested to release custody of the child to the adoption centre under the council. He said it was the first time that the council had to intervene to save a child from brutal parents. Mr. Krishnan called for stern action against the parents of the child under the provision of the Juvenile Justice Act. “Aromal was subjected to cruel treatment. His body bore welter marks of caning and burn injuries caused by cigarettes. He was also forced to eat from the same plate of the dog in the house,” he said.

A press release issued by the council said the sufferings of Aromal highlighted the hideous face of violence against children. The public have been directed to inform the office of the council at Ph: 0471- 2324939, 2324932 or 9847464613 if any such case comes to notice.
