Kittur Utsav from Tuesday

Belgaum: “Kittur Utsav-2007” is all set to take off as scheduled on October 23.

Preparations for various events slated for the annual cultural extravaganza at the historical Kittur Fort, in Kittur town, are in the final stages.

It is being organised under the joint auspices of Kannada and Culture Department, the district administration, and by Veerarani Kittur Channamma Vijayotsav Samithi.

The three-day festival is expected to showcase the rich cultural heritage, including literary traditions and folklore of north Karnataka in general and Belgaum district in particular.

As part of the celebrations, a special Kannada film festival will be organised for four days from October 22.

There will be a special felicitation of Hindustani vocalist and doyenne of Kirana gharana Gangubai Hangal, in recognition of her service in the field of Indian classical music. She will be felicitated at 5 p.m. on October 23.
