KOZHIKODE: The State Human Rights Commission has sought a clarification from the Health and Family Welfare Department on why undue delay was shown in payment of pension to a senior superintendent who had sought voluntary retirement. At a sitting at the Government Guest House here on Monday, Commission member V.P. Mohankumar enquired as to why despite an application being filed by Haripriya Gopal, senior superintendent in the District Medical Office, in July 2006 for voluntary retirement, no intimation had been received from the department concerned on matters relating to pension payment till February 2007. Ms. Gopal approached the rights panel on March 13, 2007, and as per a government Order on June 6, 2007, she was directed to be paid pension and other benefits. The panel enquired into the undue delay by the department in paying the pension to the petitioner. As many as 17 cases came up for hearing at the sitting and four were settled.
