Salary for staff of 21 banks pending for past five months
Krishnagiri: Employees of Krishnagiri district Primary Agricultural Cooperative Banks (PACBs) observed a fast in front of the Collectorate on Monday urging the State Government to pay salary to the employees of 21 banks pending for the past five months.
Drought
The non-refund of money following a reeling drought and waiver of crop loans has led to non-payment of wages to the employees of PACBs. The non-recovery of various loans had also placed the PACBs under severe financial strain.
Neither the Central District Co-operative Bank nor the Government had come forward to compensate the PACBs, which left the banks and its employees high and dry. Employees working in Dharmapuri and Krishnagiri districts were the worst affected.
The State Government should provide adequate funds to the PACBs to extend all types of loans, they claimed. The Government should fix basic pay for employees who were working in cooperative banks in the district for the past seven years.
It should also provide Dearness Allowance to employees of cooperative banks on par with government employees. The Government should provide promotion for employees based on their seniority.
The members urged the Uthangarai Agricultural Producers Cooperative Society to disburse the commission under Sampoorna Grama Rozgar Yojana (SGRY) scheme to concerned PACBs. They also demanded the reinstatement of workers. District president S. Murugesan led the fast.
