Painting contest on November 24

Special Correspondent

Kozhikode: The Hindu-Young World Painting Competition here on November 24 has evoked an enthusiastic response as in the previous years. There has been a steady stream of enquiries from young artists eager to participate.

While most enquires are made over telephone, a few came to the office of The Hindu. Some others persuaded their parents to pay a visit and get details of the event. There is no entry form or any fee. The painting should be done on a white drawing sheet (26 cm x 27 cm), choosing one of the four topics given (separate for juniors and seniors). Each student should get the painting certified by the art teacher or the Principal of the school as his or her work. The entry, with name, age and residential address written clearly, should be sent before October 31 to the branch manager, The Hindu, first floor, Shaaz building, Kannur Road, Kozhikode 673 006. Selected students will be intimated individually and they should come to the venue, to be announced later, with the intimation letter at their own cost on November 24 to participate in the finals.

Apart from the first, second and third prizes, there will be consolation prizes. Prizes will be distributed on the same day.

The participants will also be given certificates. Students from classes four to seven are included in the junior category and those from eight to 10 in the senior category.

Topics

The following are the topics: (juniors) “You and your computer;” “At the swimming pool;” “Visit to a flower garden;” and “Kite flying on the beach.” (Seniors): “Boat ride in a river;” “Train crossing a bridge;” “Inside a harbour;” and “Helping the handicapped.”
