KANNUR: Music director V. Dakshinamoorthy has accepted an invitation from the Indian Arts Society in Dubai to participate in a music programme there on January 31. Mr. Dakshinamoorthy said he would also attend a function christened ‘Gurudakshina’ at Al Nasar Leasureland in Dubai the same day. The organisers wanted the programme to be an occasion for Malayali children learning music in Dubai to offer ‘gurudakshina’ to him. Film artistes and playback singers would also attend the veteran music director’s programme in Dubai, he said. The maestro, with over 1,500 songs to his credit, told reporters that he would direct music in the forthcoming film ‘Mizhikal Sakshi’ directed by Ashok R. Nath. He said recording of songs by K.J. Yesudas and Janaki had already been completed. The last film for which he had done music was ‘Idanazhiyil oru Kalocha,’ he said adding that O.N.V. Kurup was the lyricist for that film. His latest assignment was also to give tunes to lyrics by Mr. Kurup, he said. In the morning, the musician was presented the ‘Sangeetha Vigyana Nidhi’ award and a golden bangle by the Kozhikode-based Thali Sadgurukulam at the Raja Rajeshwari Temple at Taliparamba here. Mr. Dakshinamoorthy continues his ‘special links’ with the district. He is conducting the annual Thyagraja Akhanda Sangeetha Aradhana Yagnam as well as Anjaneya Sahasra Nama Laksharchana at the Makreri Temple here. The programme is being organised as his musical offering to the deity.
