Union sees move to foil deputation

Staff Reporter

KEO alleges external intervention

KANNUR: The Keltron Employees’ Organisation (KEO) has alleged moves to thwart the Government’s decision to send employees of Keltron Crystals Ltd. (KXL) on deputation to other institutions. The decision was taken to reduce liability of the company.

KEO Kannur unit secretary, in a representation to Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan, said the KXL had been facing financial crisis and its employees were given only 60 per cent of salary. The employees were still to be given seven months’ pay arrears, he said. Trade unions, management and the government had been trying to salvage KXL by introducing one-time settlement (OTS) and outsourced work, he said. The employees of the KXL were being sent on deputation as part of this effort, he said. Though the Chief Minister had taken a favourable decision, the KEO suspected moves to torpedo the Chief Minister’s decision, he said.

The KXL management was yet to relieve four employees though they had received deputation order. The employees had to join the KSBC before October 24. The KEO alleged external intervention in delaying the relieving order. It urged the Chief Minister to order an inquiry into the alleged move to defy the government order.
