The members have sought changes in GO on road project BANGALORE: An all-party delegation consisting of members of the Mysore and Kodagu Zilla Panchayats have appealed to the Governor to bring a modification in the Government Order No. RDP/97/RRC/07 of June 27, 2007 which has altered the provisions of the Mukhya Mantri Grameena Raste Abhivriddhi Yojane. ZP worksA delegation of members, which submitted a memorandum to the Governor on October 19, said the yojane had been proposed under the 12th Finance Commission grants which were specially meant for the development of rural roads. These works were to be implemented by the zilla panchayats. The Government Order of June 27 had brought in a change in the nature of the yojane by stating that the zilla panchayat members would not have any say in the matter and they could not suggest any work in their respective constituencies. The order had fixed a “package tender” process for all the work to the extent of Rs. 60 lakh to Rs. 1 crore. According to the memorandum, the order curtailed their rights as members of the democratically elected panchayats. AttentionWhat was more important was that the roads which had gone bad in many areas in the two districts would not get the right attention without the involvement of the zilla panchayat members of the respective areas. The delegation had been led by MLC N. Manjunath and Kodagu Zilla Panchayat president V. Deergakeshi Shivanna.
