Kochi: Applications received on behalf of the two communist parties in the ruling front for land in Munnar did not mention any purpose for which they sought its assignment, an affidavit filed by the State government before the Kerala High Court on Monday said. The affidavit, filed in response to a court directive, said a Pattayam was issued to P.K. Vasudevan Nair for 11.5 cents of land in Kanan Devan Hills Village. Even in the title, the purpose had not been shown. The land was used for construction of a building. However, the Communist Party of India (CPI) contended that it had bought the property from one Abraham. The party’s contention was that the assignment officer had made a mistake by adding seven cents to the adjoining four cents and assigned 11.5 cents. The affidavit said that no further action was taken as a Vigilance inquiry into the issue was on. In the case of the title given to the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M), the affidavit said that it was issued in the name of M.M. Mony. He sought assignment of 25 cents of land. Petition dismissedJustice V. Ramkumar, on Monday, dismissed a petition filed by K.G. Premshankar, Additional Director-General of Police, seeking to expunge the remarks made against him by the court in a criminal case. The judge made the observation while declining the official’s plea for quashing the proceedings initiated against him by the Ernakulum Chief Judicial Magistrate Court in connection with manhandling of Maniyeri Madhavan, Editor, Sudhinam, a newspaper published from Kannur. Closure of institutions The court admitted a writ petition seeking a direction to the State government to take action against the management of educational institutions under the Thamarassery Diocese for closing the institutions on October 17 in protest against a remark of Communist Party of India (Marxist) State secretary Pinarayi Vijayan on the diocese. No transfer of resort Justice Antony Dominic, on Monday, directed the State government not to hand over the land taken over from Autumn Woods Resorts (Cloud 9) to any third party. The resort owner also sought Rs. 15 crore as compensation for demolishing the resort.
