KOCHI: People’s Democratic Party (PDP) chairman Abdul Nasir Maudany on Monday warned the Left Democratic Front (LDF) government in the State that its place would be in ‘history’s garbage bin’ if it failed to stand up to the expectations of the marginalised. However, Mr. Maudany — who was arrested and handed over to the Tamil Nadu police during the E.K. Nayarar regime in connection with the Coimbatore serial bomb blast case and who started supporting the LDF during the last Assembly election — said his party still supported the LDF and sought God’s blessings for the Achuthanandan government to deliver the goods. He was speaking after opening a two-day orientation camp for the middle and lower rungs of party leadership. Forest Minister Benoy Viswom offered felicitations to the meeting. Munnar operationsMr. Maudany said his party was criticising the government because it wanted the wrong policies corrected. The Achuthanandan government had raised high hopes during the Munnar operation, but it could not carry on the operation. Though the LDF Ministers were all capable people, there was some roadblock that hit the administration. The government was mainly addressing the concerns of the middle class, and not of the poor, who constituted 40 per cent of the population. He said that though the State gloated over the Kerala model of development, feudalistic tendencies were still active in Kerala. Mr. Viswom, in a brief speech, pointed out that Communism had a big role in containing feudalism in the State. The Minister offered the LDF’s backing for the PDP’s anti-imperialism campaign.
