POLLACHI: Even before the northeast monsoon could gather pace, group of dams under the Parambikulam Aliyar Project (PAP), barring Tirumurthi reservoir, in the Western Ghats are brimming.
The two big reservoirs under the PAP - Sholayar Dam and Parambikulam Dam - are nearly overflowing. Water level in Sholayar Dam stood at 160.12 ft against the full reservoir level of 160 ft on 8 a.m. on Monday with an inflow of 681 cusecs. The outflow was 627 cusecs.
At Parambikulam reservoir, water level stood at 71.67 ft against the full level of 72 ft. The inflow was 445 cusecs while the outflow was 1,005 cusecs. Aliyar Dam received an inflow of 174 cusecs.
Water level stood at 119.50 ft against the full reservoir level of 120 ft.
At Tirumurthi Dam, from where water was released for irrigation, water level stood at 38.38 ft against the full reservoir level of 60 ft. The dam received an inflow of 8,211 cusecs from the contour canal.
During the last 24 hours (that ended at 8 a.m. on Monday), the rainfall recorded at various places (in mm) is: Sholayar-4, Parambikulam-13, Aliyar- 4.4, Tirumurthy Dam- 8, Valparai-5.2 and Sircarpathy-27.
