This Day That Age
At the press conference in New Delhi on October 21, much of Prime Minister Nehru’s time was taken up answering questions about the Finance Minister, Mr. T.T. Krishnamachari’s speeches in the United States about the Communists’ role in India and international Communism. Mr. Nehru rejected suggestions that Congress leaders were divided on their assessment of the situation in Kerala. Mr. Nehru in effect endorsed the Congress General Secretary’s assessment of the Kerala situation when he remarked that “there is undoubtedly a measure of apprehension in the minds of the people about the functioning of law and order and about the various pressures being exercised in the State.” The Prime Minister paid a tribute to Mr. Krishnamachari and said, “He has done a fine job of work and had carried a heavy burden.” There may be disagreement among colleagues in regard to many matters. But these were discussed in the Cabinet and decisions were reached.
