Pro-Europe party wins

WARSAW: Poland’s troubled relations with the European Union took a marked turn for the better almost immediately after a resounding election victory by the pro-European Civic Platform, with the most enthusiastic reaction coming from neighbouring Germany.

Civic Platform, which ousted the government of Prime Minister Jaroslaw Kaczynski, pledged on Monday to put Poland in the centre of European integration after two years of confrontation with Brussels and fellow E.U. countries over issues ranging from economy to environment to human rights. — AP
