Staff Reporter

Government employees found to lay claims for house sites to poor

CM announces prize money for proof of ineligibility

300 eligible beneficiaries do not figure in 3 divisions

KADAPA: In response to Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy’s call to identify ineligible Indiramma beneficiaries, the CPI(M) leaders forwarded a list of 273 allegedly ineligible persons figuring in the beneficiary list to District Collector M.T. Krishna Babu.

The Chief Minister had announced a reward of Rs. 1,000 per case to persons who would be able to identify such beneficiaries.

Of the total number of 5,857 beneficiaries in 33 municipal divisions to whom house sites were given by the Chief Minister, 273 beneficiaries in the 14, 16 and 31 municipal divisions were ineligible, CPI(M) leaders N. Ravisankar Reddy, Dastagiri Reddy, Sivaram and O. Sankar said. The Left leaders urged the Collector to pay them Rs. 1,000 for each ineligible beneficiary identified by them, in accordance with the announcement made at a public meeting at on October 20 at Mamillapalle in Chintakommadinne mandal.

Some Central Government employees including IOC and railway employees and lot of State Government employees figured in the beneficiary list, they alleged. Those having house sites, pucca houses and property also found place in the official list, they said.

‘Bogus’

The beneficiaries included some political functionaries who contested in municipal corporation elections by spending a minimum of Rs. 10 lakh, they alleged.

At least 150 more beneficiaries in the three divisions mentioned were ‘bogus’ ones, they claimed and said a list of their names would be handed over within the next two to three days.

At least 300 eligible beneficiaries did not figure in beneficiary lists in the three divisions, they asserted.

In all, 2,000 beneficiaries in 33 divisions were ineligible, they stated. Assuring to forward proof of ineligibility of the beneficiaries, they urged the Collector to exclude the ineligible and replace them with genuine beneficiaries.

CPI(M) would continue its struggle until all the poor were granted house sites, they asserted.

Recalling statements of district officials that 12,000 persons lacked house sites, he sought allotment of house sites to them. Land occupation struggle gained strength because ineligible figured in beneficiary lists and eligible ones remained excluded, they maintained.

Easy identification

Beneficiary lists only contained names of women and mentioning names of their husbands would have made identification of beneficiaries easier.

They demanded constitution of all-party committees municipal division-wise to identify those ineligible in beneficiary lists.
