TDP neglected Hindupur: Ministers

Staff Reporter

‘Drinking water problem tackled, solution in the pipeline’

Congress sanctioned 13,000 houses in 3 years as against 3,030 by TDP

Loans to women SHGs ran into crores as against 50 lakh in TDP rule

HINDUPUR: Ministers J.C. Diwakar Reddy and N. Raghuveera Reddy have alleged that TDP leaders including N.T. Rama Rao, N. Harikrishna and N. Chandrababu Naidu have deceived the people of Hindupur with empty promises since the inception of their party.

In comparison, the Congress has been keeping all its promises made to the people here since the municipal elections held earlier this year, the Ministers claimed. Their Government has outperformed the previous dispensation in every aspect pertaining to people and their welfare, they stated.

Speaking at a public meeting organised as part of ‘Indiramma Samuhika Gurhapraveshalu’ here on Monday, they pointed out that drinking water was the major problem that was neglected by the TDP for more than two decades.

However, the Congress has taken up the problem much before the municipal elections and a solution was in the pipeline.

Agriculture Minister Mr. Raghuveera Reddy stated that the TDP Government had sanctioned 3,030 houses to the town in its rule and the Congress had sanctioned 13,000 houses in just 26 out of 38 wards in just over 3 years. Similarly, only 1,600 persons were getting welfare pensions in TDP rule. The number had gone beyond 10,000 in Congress rule.

In terms of amount, the beneficiaries used to get Rs. 14 lakh as welfare pensions every month during TDP rule. Now they were getting Rs. 2.35 crore every month. With regard to financial assistance to women self help groups (SHGs), he said the TDP had given Rs. 50 lakh loans and the Congress Government had given Rs. 8.5 crore so far.

Drinking water

For several years people had been living by buying drinking water at Rs. 2 per pot, but their Government was committed to bring a permanent solution to the problem with a drinking water project in progress by the next year-end, Minister for Panchayati Raj Mr. Diwakar Reddy said. “Beat us with broomsticks, if we fail to give water to you in the promised time”, he told the women.

Zilla Parishad Chairperson T. Kavitha, Hindupur MP D. Nizamuddin, Municipal Chairperson J.E. Anil Kumar and others also spoke. The Ministers handed over welfare pensions sanction certificates to 5,498 beneficiaries and house possession certificates to 10,142 beneficiaries later.
