HYDERABAD: Reversing its earlier decision, the Andhra Pradesh Government now wants the 20-MW hydro-power project, planned three km downstream the existing 120-MW Machkund power station, to be executed by AP Genco in place of Venus Energy Private limited.
The site selected for the project is across the Machkund in Orissa.
The Andhra Pradesh and Orissa Governments had signed an agreement in 1999 to implement it as a joint venture to equally share power. Accordingly, the Orissa Government entrusted the execution of the project to Venus Energy Private Limited, while AP Genco issued a no-objection certificate in 2000.
Loophole
Reviewing the project at a meeting here on Monday, Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy, however, found that Venus Energy Limited did not achieve even financial closure till date, let alone starting work. Energy Minister Mohd Ali Shabbir told reporters that the Chief Minister had asked officials to make efforts to get the project implemented by AP Genco.
Expressing concern over the inordinate delay, Dr. Reddy wants a report to be submitted to him before October 30 so that the Government could take up the issue with Orissa.
