SHIMLA: The two major political parties in Himachal Pradesh, the Congress and the BJP, have taken the lead in choosing their candidates for the three tribal seats in the State Assembly for which elections would be held in the first phase on November 14. Due to an early snowfall in these areas of Kinnaur, Bharmaur and Lahaul-Spiti, the Election Commission has declared polls here at least one month ahead of schedule for the first phase. The Congress has retained two of its three sitting MLAs. Veteran leader Thakur Singh Bharmauri has been named the party candidate from Bharmaur in Chamba district. Another sitting MLA, Jagat Singh Negi, will be the party nominee from Kinnaur. Raghubir Singh Thakur, representing Lahaul-Spiti so far, has been replaced by a former legislator, Phung Chuk Rai as the party candidate. The BJP has named Tulsi Ram as the candidate from Bharmaur, Tejwant Negi from Kinnaur and Ram Lal Markandey, a former Minister , from Lahaul-Spiti. No other party has come out with its candidates so far. The BSP is likely to declare its candidates on Tuesday.
