AIDS-hit widow to get pension

Special Correspondent

PUDUKOTTAI: During the weekly grievance day meeting here on Monday, Collector D. Uthirakumaran ordered payment of widow’s pension to Selvi, an AIDS patient from Vambarapatti village in Tirumayam taluk.

Selvi presented a petition to the Collector during the last weekly grievance day meeting held on October 15, stating that her husband Kittu died of AIDS. Selvi too was afflicted by the dreaded disease.

With no income, Selvi and her two children were living in penury. .

The petition was sent to the Tirumayam Special Tahsildar (social security scheme) for verification after which Mr. Uthirakumaran sanctioned widow’s pension of Rs. 400 per month to Selvi from November 2007. Though she had not sought assistance of Rs. 10,000 provided to the family living in penury which lost its head, the Collector has recommended it. .
