PUDUKOTTAI: Learning English is not tough. A sustained effort will help the students to get over the difficulties in developing their spoken English skills besides mastery in the language, observed speakers at a seminar on ‘Learning English language: problems and challenges’.
The seminar was organised by the NSS unit of the H. H. The Rajah’s College here recently.
Hariram Jothi, a faculty from the Department of English, J. J. College of Arts and Science, one of the resource persons, said students should give up the myth that learning this foreign language was not an easy task.
Use of simple and direct language together with easily understandable communication skills would facilitate the students gain a thorough knowledge of the language.
Emphasising the importance of accent and clarity in pronunciation, he called upon the students to listen to English news bulletins and cultivate the habit of reading English newspapers to develop their skill in vocabulary. Inter-personal communication should be in English, he added.
Another faculty from J. J. College of Arts and Science, S. Navaneethan appealed to the parents and teachers to ensure that the students developed adequate skills.
