Farmer hacked to death

PERAMBALUR: A farmer was hacked to death and nine persons, including two women injured, in a clash between two rival groups of villagers on Sunday. Previous enmity was said to have caused the incident, police said.

It all started when the farmer, Desingu Balan (40) was waylaid by a few villagers at Manngudi village near Meensuritti, police said.

Soon, a few supporters of Desingu Balan attacked the rival group.

Desingu Balan suffered serious injuries and was admitted to the Rajah Muthiah Medical College and Hospital in Annamalainagar near Chidambaram, where he succumbed to the injuries. The injured were admitted to the Government Headquarters Hospital in Cuddalore.

The police have registered a case.
