Advocates call off court boycott

CHENNAI: The Madras High Court Advocates Association (MHAA) on Monday called off its over a week-long boycott of court proceedings.

The resolution was adopted at an extraordinary general body meeting of the association.

The decision was taken after Chief Justice A.P. Shah assured the MHAA that the State-level committee, comprising two sitting Judges of the High Court, Chief Secretary, Home Secretary, Additional Director-General of Police (Law and Order), president of the MHAA, the Chairman of the Bar Council of Tamil Nadu and the president of the Bar Federation of Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry, would discuss the issue.

The committee would meet this week itself and pass appropriate orders within a day after hearing advocates and the policeman concerned, MHAA president Paul Kanagaraj said.
