Mob goes on the rampage
Staff Correspondent
BHOPAL: Angered by the defacement of a statue of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, a mob of Dalits on Monday morning went on the rampage at Bag Mughalia on the outskirts of the Madhya Pradesh capital.
The police fired teargas shells and used force to disperse the crowd, before rescuing a family targeted by the protesters.
Eyewitnesses told this correspondent that the slum dwellers, a large number of them women, attacked the house of Bhola Ram Ahirwar, alleging that he was responsible for damaging the statue. The front door was broken, a window smashed and the house ransacked. Someone poured kerosene inside and set the house on fire.
