Shibu Kumar was the victim of mob fury in Mandiri locality under Buddha Colony police station, officer in-charge R.K. Mall said.
Eyewitnesses alleged that the youth was beaten up in the presence of police. However, Mr. Mall said police were not present when the incident took place.
“A police team rushed to the spot on receiving information that a man was being beaten up after allegedly being caught trying to steal a bicycle.....When the team reached the spot, the man was lying on the road,” he said.
The officer said a medical examination on the youth ruled out any major internal or external injury. Shibu pleaded innocence. — PTI
