TN dismissed cheaply

VISAKHAPATNAM: Karnataka restricted Tamil Nadu to 130 in its first innings in a round-robin match of the South Zone under-22 (C.K. Nayudu Trophy) cricket tournament at the Port Stadium here on Monday.

Karnataka was 25 for no loss in reply at close on the first day of the four-day match. The match commenced at 12.15 p.m. due to rain. S.K. Akshaya and Gourav Dhiman with three wickets each and R. Bhatkal, who picked up two wickets, provided a good start for Karnataka, which needs an outright win along with a bonus point to pip Tamil Nadu for the title.

At the ACA-VDCA Stadium, where the Hyderabad-Andhra match too commenced only after an early lunch, Hyderabad scored 140 for three, thanks to an unbroken stand of 84 runs between D.D. Prince (60) and Amol Shinde (45) against Andhra.

The entire first day’s play in the Kerala-Goa match at the Railway Stadium was washed out.

In the fourth and penultimate round, Kerala went down to Karnataka by six wickets after putting up a great fight. Following on after being 204 runs behind in the first innings, Kerala made 385, thanks to a century by R.V. Gomes (104, 7x4, 5x6) and Rohan Prem’s 76 (10x4). Karnataka off-spinner Ryan Nian claimed seven wickets.

Karnataka’s Gourav Dhiman led the team to victory with a fine century (119, 12x4, 3x6).

The scores: Tamil Nadu 130 in 42.5 overs (K. Sriram 31, S. Dinesh Kumar 28, S.L. Akshaya three for 32, Gaurav Dhiman three for 46) vs. Karnataka 25 for no loss in 12 overs; Hyderabad 140 for three in 59 overs (D.D. Prince 60 batting, Amol Shinde 45 batting) vs Andhra.

Kerala vs. Goa (first day washed out); Previous round match: Karnataka 324 and 182 for four in 39 overs (Gourav Dhiman 119) bt Kerala 120 and 385 in 139 overs (R.V. Gomes 104, Rohan Prem 76, Abhishek Hegde 41, C. Rizwan 36, S. Anish 33, Ryan Nian seven for 149).

Points at the end of penultimate round of matches: Tamil Nadu (19), Karnataka (14), Hyderabad (13), Andhra (8), Goa (2), Kerala (nil). — Special Correspondent
