BANGALORE: It was a pleasant morning for the students of Rashtrotthana Vidya Kendra, Arkavathi Layout, when the swimming pool and football stadium built on the school premises were inaugurated recently. Swimmer Rehan Poncha inaugurated the pool and taught a few techniques to the students. He expressed his desire to see a few Olympic winners from the school. Former director of Department of Physical Education, Bangalore University, B.N. Shankar Narayanan stressed the importance of sports in the overall development of a child. He explained that physical activities helped students excel in academics as they improved memory power. Former Governor of Bihar and Jharkhand Justice M. Rama Jois, who presided over the function, said that swimming played a vital role in physical development of a child. Children were thrilled when they dived and spent considerable time in the pool. A.G.K. Nayak, Joint Secretary of Vidya Bharathi welcomed the gathering and introduced the guests. Vishnukanth Chatpalli, Secretary of Vidya Bharathi spoke on the mission of the school. Principal Sujatha Khadabadi proposed a vote of thanks. Interact ClubThe election of members of the Interact Club of Sri Jnanakshi Vidyaniketan, Rajarajesjwari Nagar, was held recently. Sujay Ravi was elected president of the club and in his acceptance speech, he said that they will take up “Each One Teach One” project and also would maintain the cleanliness on the school premises. Rajendra Rai told the members to adopt an underprivileged school and extend all help to the children studying in it. Lochana Ashok Kumar reminded the members that academics should be the first priority and it had to be followed by other activities. Sri Jayendra Saraswati, who was the chief guest, explained the meaning of the school song. He told the students to serve the suffering and those who are need of help. “Instead of feeding a hungry man for a day, teach him the way to earn his living so that he feeds himself permanently,” he said.
