Facilities in government Ayurveda hospitals to be improved

NEW INITIATIVE: Health Minister P.K. Sreemathy unveils a plaque after laying the stone for the Panchakarma treatment and research centre of Government Ayurveda College, Thiruvananthapuram, in the city on Monday. —

Thiruvananthapuram: The government has plans to improve facilities in all government Ayurveda hospitals, Health Minister P.K. Sreemathy has said.

She was speaking after laying the stone for the Panchakarma treatment and research centre of Government Ayurveda College, Thiruvananthapuram, at Poojappura here on Monday.

Vacancies to be filled

Ms. Sreemathy said Ayurveda was an integral part of the country’s heritage and steps were being taken to fill the vacancies of doctors and ensure supply of medicines in all government Ayurveda hospitals.

The proposed eight-storeyed research institute is being set up at a cost of Rs.4 crore, for which an allocation of Rs.2 crore was earmarked in the Plan funds for 2006-07.

Facilities

The institute will have general and pay wards, luxury suites and modern clinical laboratories.

The construction of the building has been entrusted to Habitat Technology Group, which has promised to complete the first five floors in the next 18 months.
