16-man gang held, vehicles recovered

Bangalore: The South division police have arrested 16 members of an inter-State gang on the charge of vehicle theft and cheating and recovered from them 20 cars, eight two-wheelers, an autorickshaw and five mobile phones, together valued at Rs. 1.42 crore.
The police said 28 cases of vehicle theft reported in J.P. Nagar, Basavanagudi, Girinagar, Jayanagar and Siddapura police station limits in the city and Mangalore and Kerala have been solved with the arrest of the gang.
Most of the arrested men are from Kerala, the police said.
One of the accused, Anand (28), worked as a tout at a Regional Transport Office (RTO) here, the police added.
He had created fake documents and sold the stolen cars, the police said.
