Man convicted for throwing acid on girl

New Delhi: A city court on Monday convicted a man for throwing acid on an 18-year-old girl two years ago, disfiguring her face and causing her to go blind. The quantum of the sentence will be delivered on October 25 and the victim has turned down the convict’s proposal to marry her. Additional Sessions Judge Sanjay Sharma convicted Yashpal, who was staying as a tenant in the house of the victim Renu’s family in Mansarovar Park in East Delhi, for the offence committed in February 2005.

Ten witnesses were examined during the course of the trial and the victim is being treated for severe burns that also caused her to lose her sight and disfigure her face.

Prosecution counsel Manish Bhadauria said Renu has demanded strict punishment against the accused and rejected his proposal of marriage.

Yashpal was convicted by the court under Section 326 (voluntarily causing grievous hurt by dangerous weapons or means) of IPC.
